Hmm, time flies doesn't it? We're already into term 2, nearly 5 months after school ended. I was randomly looking at some chat logs, dating back to august last year. The carefreeness, of TDing, Dotaing and sleepovers.

Of course there was talk of exam, explaining everything to each other over msn, and yeah, good times.

As we're mostly settled into our new environments and classes already, don't forget to say hi to each other and stuff. We should get out together sometime, sometime....

Anyway, next week's council campaigning, anyone from our class running? I dunno. We'll see how things go lah, play by ear. I concur with Kenneth, I'd probably not use up all my votes, maybe just the negatives =)

Epilogue

The party stood in a circle, all of them in deep thought. The building which was their home and their lives had crumbled, leaving them to wonder where to go to now, and what to do. That very building embodied everything they had stood for and all the memories and experiences that they shared.

Their journeys started a little over two years ago, where by chance they had gathered. From relative strangers, they had grown into a strong tight knit group. Friendships were formed, some relatively early on, others still fresh. They had gone through much, from combating entities known only as "teachers" to losing two among them. Yet they had gone this far, step by step, day by day, helping each other, being true friends and companions. While conflict still arose within the group among them, most of the time it was harmless, however there are scars left behind.

The group was a large part of their hearts and souls, and now, they are facing disbandment. Putting aside their differences, they were able to battle through times of hardship and difficulty. Facing down challenges, beating down anyone and anything that stood in their way, they stood triumph, but yet at the peak of their achievements, tragedy struck. It was not to be after all, with the passing of time, and very foundations began to fracture, threatening to split apart what each held dear.

33 unique individuals, each with their own strengths and weaknesses, non alike. Now each stood in the night, with the rain pelting each of their backs. Some made up their minds and began to depart from the rubble; others however clung on to every detail of what that once was. Many paths were laid out in front of them, each leading to a different destination. As small groups of adventurers or lone wolves departed, a part of each was ripped out as the silhouette of each slowly merged with the surrounding darkness. 33 individuals, many paths, some would never cross, while others will lead to a reunion of old friends. With each step, they move along the path that they chose, each cannot help but think "When will the flag of π + 1 ever be raised again?"

After the lecture/talk that we had during PC, it set me thinking about the future. I think that many people have no freaking clue what the heck they want to do in the future, save for like Kenny the Lawyer.

As of yet, still don't have any particular field i would like to pursue, but engineering seems a viable industry. But the problem is HL Math, which is like next to impossible. Not not accomplishable, but will be hard, guess I better take Thong Nai Kee more seriously, in order for next year.

A Dare - Bat-Sheva Guez
To the casual observer, it might seem like a typical day in Mrs. Gold's third-period study hall. But to the trained eye, it is possible to see that a real-life drama is unfolding its tentative petals to the world. Of course, it all has to be done quietly under Mrs. Gold's watchful ee, for no sounds above a whisper are allowed.

It begins in a back corner, unnoticeable at first, a slight shuffle of cramped limbs, a muffled snicker. Someone laughs only to be quickly silened. Then the whispered words begin to carry.

"Nahh, he won't do it."

"Go for it. I want to see what she'd say..."

Matt replies unintelligibly, except for the bravado in his voice. Then someone says too loudly, "He's afraid."

"Shh!" says the teacher disapprovingly.

"Yeah, man. Quiet down!" comes the high-pitched, nasal tone mocking the teacher. Then it is quiet again.

"I dare you," says one boy. He is not as loud as the rest. The challenge is in his eyes, along with the belief that Matt does not have the courage to go through with it. "Her," he points across the room to a girl studiously reading at her desk.

"Her?" says Matt. The others begin to nudge each other and grin. Nobody moves.

"Now," says the first boy.

"Now?" There is a touch of fear in his voice.

"Right now. Right here."

"Fine," says Matt, unflinchingly. He stands up, conscious that the entire back of the room is watching him, and makes his way over to where the girl sits bent over her book. There is an empty desk next to her, and he slides into it, his long legs stretch out in the aisle.

"Hey," he whispers, trying not to hear the sounds of laughter drifting across the rows of desks. The girl does not move; her straight brown hair shields her face as she continues to look down at her book.

"Hey," he says again, a little louder. This time she responds, reluctantly pulling herself from the story and raising her head to meet his gaze. Her eyes are a soft gray, the kind that look as though they could easily fill with tears at any injustice. He is surprised by those eyes. She blinks at him slowly as if coming back from another world and is confused at the sight of another human being.

"Hi," she says softly. It is the first time he has heard her speak. Unexpectedly, he finds himself to be shy.

"What're you reading?" She holds up the object of her attention, and he silently reads the title, moving his lips to sound out the words. "Nice," he says. "Is it good?" She doesn't reply at first. Then she nods "Yes." They are silent for a moment. He glances uncomfortably at his desk, fingering the initials carved in te top, aware that she is staring at him and suddenly curious about what she is thinking.

"So, i was wondering if you were doing anything this Saturday night?" he akes, looking over very carefully.

"I'm not," she says shyly, without facing him.

"You wanna go out then?" It is quiet for a while. He finds he cannot look at her.

"Sure," she says in a whisper so the teacher won't hear. He looks up startled to find her smiling, and at that moment he feels like smiling, too.

In the back of the room, there is a silent uproar.

"Look, he's going through with it!

"No he's not. He's just faking it"

"Looks like hes askin' her out to me."

"Shh! See if you can hear em." They all strain, listening. The forced silence doesn't last long, and soon they are laughing again.

"He sure is taking a long time," says one boy.

"Shut up," the others say almost in unison.

Finally the bell rings, and they storm out, shoving each other and shouting as they force their way into the hall where they wait until Matt emerges. He is the last one out.

"D'ya do it?" asks one.

"Yeah, I did it." This sends them into a storm of racous laughter.

"I can't believe Matt. He actually went through with it." They grin and punch him as they walk toward their next class. "We gotta celebrate," someone says. "This Saturday night, my old man's gonna be out." This puts them into a spirited mood, picturing the weekend.

"Wait a minute," says Matt.

"What?"

"What about the girl?"

They all stop in their tracks and look at him. Then they laugh. "It's over. You won the bet. You don't have to do anything."

"Oh," Matt says a little uncomfortably. Seeing the problem, the boys eye each other warily.

"You just had to ask her out, man. You don't have to go through with it."

"I knew that," Matt says, trying to understand his sudden feeling of disappointment

"So, we'll see you Saturday night?"

"... I can't. There's something I gotta do," Matt says, looking at the floor. The other boy shrugs.

"Whatever. It's your loss."

The drama over, the boys walk into the classroom, all except for Matt. Instead, he takes a moment to look over his shoulder and smile at the timid, gray-eyed girl standing at the far end of the hallway.

human weakness lies in our philosophical thinking, where we usually make things seem like a bigger deal than it really actually is. but i guess thinking about self, in the non-selfish manner, is good because it helps us to understand ourselves better. thinking about the future and all that jazz is only useful for those who ask more of "what am i going to do?", rather than "what is going to happen to me?"

haha it so happened i posted about that even before i saw your post gideon. lol and my posts are usually of that kind of length. if not longer : ) short posts belong on the tagboard, dont they? bahh anyway..

life is only interesting cos the extremes exist. take clement's example of anger. if anger didnt exist in the world, and everyone were docile and pacified all the time, wouldnt life be boooring? if passionate love and hate didnt exist, our relationships would be limited to acquaintance status alone. and if everyone were simply acquaintances, i'd really rather die.

look at the friar. look at aristotle. fine, they would get through life relatively 'happy', because suree, the amount of conflict in their lives might be significantly reduced. but then again, do you think they could be truly happy? without euphoria nor depression, life is simply like the life monitoring machine thingy that goes teeeeeeeeeeeeeeet. yeah you're dead like the patient attached to it. your life would be empty. and when they look back on their lives, they wont be able to say anything about it except 'whew, ive survived __ years on earth.'

is there anything in your life worth remembering? nothing

i have only pity for such people.

Uhh, if you are that extreme, you will go out with a bang, sure it may be fun, but like, how long will it last? I guess, moderate for most of the part, but sometimes release control or soemthing.

ie, take romeo, too much and he dies, and the frair, too moderate and he's like, a frair. lol.

However, i am angry, one of the extremes, not violent delights but violence and violency. I mean like, what a shitty week, long days (tues and wed), tons of hw (let's see, FOUR lit review, rnj prose, physics tys, physics quiz , chem holiday hw, goeg field study). Yup, the week itself was already bad, but now even the weekend is not free?

I think my post looks like crap next to kenneth's maybe cos its like messy and stuff, so un professional.

"violent delights lead to violent ends". but i say go for the violent delights. life is worth living only because of the extremes. a life in moderation, so to speak, will be awfully boring and monotonous.
